VCOG logoIn anticipation of Executive Director Hugh Riley’s retirement in 2025, the Ventura Council of Governments (VCOG) enlisted TS Talent Solutions (TSTS) to assist in the search for his successor. VCOG discovered TSTS through PublicCEO, a trusted local government news publication and job hub owned by Tripepi Smith.

VCOG was specifically looking for a partner to generate applicants for the position. With expertise in digital marketing, an extensive network of local government professionals and a skilled team of recruitment specialists, team TSTS was up for the job. Led by Executive Director Christine Martin with support from Senior Recruitment Coordinator Kylie Sun and Assistant Recruitment Coordinator Sydney Fitch, the TSTS team executed on outreach efforts tailored to VCOG’s recruitment needs.

TSTS began the process by drafting and designing a detailed digital recruitment brochure. The brochure highlighted why a candidate would want to be part of VCOG, expected tasks and responsibilities of the next Executive Director and all of the pertinent information a potential applicant would want to know. Following completion of the brochure, team TSTS published the position to several job boards, launched a social media campaign and reached out directly to prospective candidates to encourage them to apply.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here with VCOG. As my tenure comes to a close, it was crucial to me to find a strong candidate to support the Board,” said Hugh Riley, VCOG Executive Director. “Christine, Kylie and Sydney were wonderful to work with; we’re incredibly thankful for their support. They not only presented us with outstanding candidates but also demonstrated a genuine commitment to VCOG’s success throughout the process.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Board to help find their next Executive Director,” said Christine. “It was a rewarding experience to find Hugh’s replacement, as he leaves his mark on the team at VCOG. I wish Hugh a seamless transition into retirement and that the VCOG Board chooses a great candidate to join their team.”
